TF60B marine gas turbine successfully passes FETT milestone

Vericor Power Systems tested the first prototype of the TF60B marine gas turbine at Standard Aero Energy in Winnipeg, Canada in early December.

Testing focused on the performance of the overall engine, compressor and low-pressure turbine.  "This test achieved all technical objectives set out in the test campaign, and we validated, and in some cases exceeded our predictions for engine performance" said Michael Luz, VP Engineering.   “The FETT run marks another important milestone for the program.  Additional tests are scheduled to take place in spring of next year, followed by qualification to ABS Naval Vessel Rules.”

The TF60B upgrades the rugged ETF40B with new materials and components, increasing power more than 25%.  The ETF40B is currently in service on the United States Navy’s Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) as part of its Service Life Extension Program (SLEP).  The navy is planning a replacement for LCAC, and the TF60B is being designed specifically as a marine engine with the new craft in mind.
