Scope Of Position


• Conducts Liquid Penetrant Testing and other Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) using specific techniques on turbine components. Uses knowledge of products, manufacturing processes, equipment set-up, and NDT methods to process parts for inspection following specific operating procedures. Interprets and evaluates test results.
• Moves between production assignments as needed to support production requirements.
• Performs assembly, disassembly, cleaning, and inspection of gas turbine engines, modules, components, and accessories as necessary to assure compliance to technical data, contractual obligations, and company standards.
• Carries out other duties as assigned including cross-training in other manufacturing processes potentially to include enhanced cleaning processes, gas turbine component disassembly and inspections, and other processes in support of daily shop operations
    • Review NDT techniques, routers, procedures, specifications, drawings and other instructions for completeness and instructions to perform operations
    • Process part(s) in accordance with approved NDT techniques, procedures, and technical instructions to evaluate for welding, machining, cold forming, and/or casting discontinuities exceeding requirements specified
    • Set-up, operate, calibrate, and perform Process Control Checks on NDT (Liquid Penetrant Test) equipment by following established instructions and record results
    • Interpret, evaluate, and report evaluation results as required and outlined
    • Fill out required logs and statistical data sheets as required
    • Clean and maintain equipment and ensures it is working properly. Clean and maintain work area as needed
    • May perform other NDT as qualified for and as required (visual, X-ray, mag particle, Eddy Current, etc.)
    • May perform other cleaning processes on turbine components through alkaline cleaning, ultrasonic cleaning, part washing, grit blasting, hydro-blasting, and other similar cleaning processes
    • Maintain required job skills and knowledge of requirements (including procedures, specifications, etc.)
    • Maintain all documents/records to be audit ready at all times
    • Provide On-the-Job Training (OJT) to Level I NDT Inspectors, trainees and fellow Level 2 NDT Inspectors
    • Assist the Level 3 in developing specific NDT techniques
    • Uses machines, tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, plant equipment and consumables necessary to carry out the required tasks.
    • Ability to follow and understand related company instructions, MOTOR, company processes, overhaul manuals, and original equipment manufacturer’s manuals.

    • Actively cross trains in other complementary skills as needed to support production requirements.

    • Responsible for observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices/conditions.
    • Maintain company tooling and equipment to ensure reliability.
    • Currently or previously certified to NDT Level 2 in Liquid Penetrant Testing in accordance with NAS410
    • Must have documented hours for Training & Experience per NAS410 Level 2 Liquid penetrant:
      • Minimum 32 hrs classroom training
      • Minimum 400 hrs experience
    • Minimum 18 months of continuous manufacturing experience as a certified Level 2 in Liquid Penetrant Testing. (For external hires, experience with Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection or FPI in the aerospace industry is strongly preferred.)
    • Ability to work on all lines and products independently and provide guidance to team members on all parts and processes within the penetrant test processes, as well as other NDT processes.
    • Able to read and interpret blueprint and engineering drawings and be able to document non-conformances as required
    • Able to utilize measuring devices including comparators, micrometers, scales, light meters and calipers
    • Demonstrates performance appropriate to an advanced position
    • Successfully pass vision screen
    • Hands-on experience with assembly and maintenance, repair, & overhaul (MRO) of gas turbines engines and components.

    • S. Citizen or permanent resident status.
    • Experience with computer software, such as MS Word, and Excel or similar tools.
    • Ability to successfully complete written and practical qualification examinations, as well as vision exams meeting the requirements of the company’s written practice.
    • Ability to train and master skills required to test and certify as a Level 3 as a long-term plan
    • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds (unassisted).
    • Observance of health, safety, and environment standards and procedures at all times.
    • Will be required to wear PPE applicable to the test method being used.
    • Able and willing to stand 90% of the time, stooping, bending, stretching, and engaging in awkward positioning
    • High school graduate or GED
    • A&P license
    • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and AS9100 Quality System requirements.
    • Experience with bills of material, source control, technical drawings, and manufacturing of industrial products and services.
    • Previous MRO/FAR 145 repair station experience is preferred
    • Swab Etch Certification desired
    • Experience in the interpretation of flaws in castings, machined parts, formed tubing, welds and braze joints desired
    • Part Cleaning experience desired, including alkaline cleaning, ultrasonic cleaning, vapor blasting, bead blasting, and parts washing
