Gas Turbine Powerplant Engineer

Reports To: Manufacturing Engineering Manager

This role will be responsible for assembly and test of OEM engines and the maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) processes across all fielded applications of Vericor gas turbines. You will work in close cooperation within Engineering and across other Vericor functions. As the repair technical lead for field service support, you will lead complex projects and improvement initiatives. You will work with internal and external customers to contribute to Vericor’s business strategy and customer success, particularly as it pertains to customer issue resolution and product improvement.

Essential Functions

• Take overall technical responsibility for engine during shop visit, including defining disassembly and repair scopes based on Vericor Technical Manuals, customer requirements, and service life guidance.
• Prepare and execute work scopes for individual engines or fleets, ensuring high-quality maintenance, optimized turnaround time (TAT), and cost efficiency.
• Lead and coordinate cross-functional teams (e.g., quality, logistics, account management, operations) to ensure smooth execution of engine shop visits.
• Analyze engine and component conditions, assess performance impacts, and recommend actions while balancing operational efficiency, cost, and lead time.
• Support sales and account management in proposal development and contract negotiations.
• Conduct technical review meetings with customers and analyze field removal reasons.
• Promote innovation, cost-saving initiatives, and continuous improvement. Utilize data analysis to develop efficient maintenance strategies for customer fleets.
• Provide input for improved reliability, performance, cost reductions to design engineering.
• Provide technical support to field service technicians.
• Support Quality, Operations and Design Engineering with disposition of Defective Material Reports (DMR), Change Requests (CR)
• Responsible for the development and maintenance of shop manufacturing processes, routers, work instructions, etc.
• Responsible for driving improvements and achieving first pass yield (FPY) targets
    • REQUIRED:
      • BS in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related Engineering discipline. Advanced degree is a plus, but not required.
      • 10-15 years of industry experience with Gas Turbines (new product, and/or service engineering).
      • Familiarity with turbine engine disassembly, inspection, repair, assembly, and testing.
      • Strong systems understanding, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
      • Ability to work effectively in a team and lead cross-functional initiatives.
      • Experience in Root Cause Analysis tools and methodology ie. Fishbone/Ishikawa, 8 Step Process, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), etc.
      • Strong analytical skills and ability to organize, manipulate and visualize data for consumption and in support of investigation and continual improvements
      • This role will require significant customer engagement. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills as well as strong interpersonal, organization, and time-management skills.
      • Knowledge of ISO 9000 Quality System requirements
      • US Citizen or permanent resident status required.

       

      DESIRED:

      • Strong knowledge of gas turbine design, and typical failure modes – creep, high temperature corrosion and oxidation, Low and High-cycle fatigue, erosion, foreign or domestic object damage
      • Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) experience
      • Knowledge of AS9100 and AS9102
      • Six Sigma Green Belt certification or higher
      • Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen
